It’s hard to explain the feeling you get when your roommate
screams SNAKE the moment she steps out of the front door. But let me tell you
it’s not a good feeling…
“SNAKE…NYOKA…SNAKE…SH*T…SNAKE”
So you run outside, scared for you life, examine the ground,
and don’t see anything…Is she crazy? Doubtful. I am blind? I don’t think so. So
then where is it???
OHHHHH you mean that, right there…yep….ok. that’s not good.
OH that’s really not good at all. It was camouflage green, two feet long, and
in the rocks by our front step. If she hadn’t seen it, I would have certainly
stepped right on it.
So the girls that were cutting our grass come running over,
and upon seeing the snake, immediately start pelting it with giant stones.
After several good blows, the snake was deemed dead, picked up via sickle, and
tossed back into the bush.
Right. I still am in shock over this. And it has also been
determined that it was most likely a very poisonous snake and probably very
dangerous. Awesome.
Considering the night before we had an invasion of army ants
in our courtyard that penetrated our back door, I look forward to the day when
every creature I encounter is not highly dangerous. Luckily some closed toed
shoes prevented instantaneously biting of the toes and some boiling water
poured in the doorway stopped further penetration into our house. Yeesh. The
things we deal with here in Muyenzi…
